My journey as an artist, designer, and maker is a tapestry woven from diverse cultural threads and personal experiences. Growing up in Agra, I was deeply influenced by my ancestors' rich heritage and the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb. Initially pursuing a career in medicine, I eventually embraced my mother's creative legacy, finding passion in painting, music, and the sitar.
Inspired by my grandmothers' love for ghazals and qawwalis, and my grandparents' impeccable taste in textiles from Benares, Bhagalpur, and the ghat cholas of Gujarat, I explore the beauty and community associated with creation. Working closely with karigars from the subcontinent, I aim to celebrate and preserve these crafts.
My formal education began with a degree in Accessory Design from NIFT Bengaluru, followed by gemmology at IGI. Living in Dubai taught me about luxury and the dynamic interplay of stories, creativity, and extravagance. My creative pursuit culminated in an MA in Jewellery and Metal from the Royal College of Art in London, where I now reside.
Fashion and design are my ways of navigating the world. My work blends treasured finds with innovative designs, each piece telling a unique story. I cherish personal connections with artisans, ensuring fair compensation and preserving their invaluable skills—a value inherited from my parents.
Walking through Portobello Market in London, I am often reminded of home. These encounters inspire me to bring the essence of India’s rich craft heritage to a broader audience.
My art is not just about aesthetics; it’s a narrative of identity, nostalgia, and cultural celebration. Each piece is a tribute to my roots, an homage to the women in my family, and an exploration of gender roles and the cognitive impact of craft. Through color, intricacy, and storytelling, I aim to create works that resonate deeply and provide a sense of belonging.
Welcome to my world, where every creation is a journey, and every piece is a story waiting to be shared.
